Amada Costa Rica

December 2016
June 2026

I actually have time for one more ... the boys are delivering what needs delivered, I'm surrounded by 8 suitcases (+ 2 carry-on's, 4 backpacks and 1 guitar) I need to finish packing said suitcases, we slept on borrowed mattresses on the floor (wrapped in Father's grace), there are piles to go 'here and there', our open windows are literally all open because I washed the curtains yesterday, we enjoyed a gifted pack of instant coffee made with shower-warmed-water in a plastic juice cup on our back porch and then the real deal as we feasted on a typical breakfast with real coffee made full of love at Diego and Alejandra's corner bread store, one final cena awaits with our beloved Salas family before going to a hotel tonight. And ... after a week of goodbyes, there is an excitement deep in our souls and the sorrow feels healthy, for that we’re grateful.

To our beloved Costa Rica, you have housed us safely behind your gates, teaching us how to be "Pura Vida", fed us with your exquisite rice and beans, refreshed us with the beauty of your rain forests, sunset beaches and brilliant rainbows, you've given us friendships that have molded and shaped us for eternity, you have implanted your beautiful language in the depths of our hearts and carried us out of our comfort zones, stretching and growing us more than we ever thought possible, and life within your borders has invited us to look to Jesus first before replicating Him to the world around us. Costa Rica, you will be forever etched on our hearts. And now ...

May the Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. Until we meet again, Pura Vida!

  3. Dear Jen and Darryl,
I remember the birth of Costa Rica as a hope and dream you shared at WBH in Lancaster, likely in triage at night, you and I working together, Jen. What a blessed journey your family has experienced and shared.
Ten years of life and pouring out yourselves in community. I can't wait to see where God takes you next!
Blessings on your travel and transition.

  4. You have been impacted by Costa Rica but you have impacted so many lives. This December will be the 1st time in years that you won't be there. You love Costa Rica and Costa Rica loves you. PURA VIDA.

  5. Jen and Daryl, I’ve enjoyed reading your rice and beans blog for years. I’ve enjoyed watching your special family thru the 10 years you’ve been with Pura Vida. May God Bless you as you come back to the States and settle in Akron. The memories you made will always be with you and bless your lives with God’s grace.
